ZA Kinzel: Papanos placed a sign up without a permit - requested that sign be turned off and removed until a permit is applied for.
Water/Sewer - Chairman Rank: There was a pump failure on Crystal Ave. Pump pulled and sent to Richland Machine - could find no difficulties with it, bearing were replaced and it is working fine. The new sewer plan includes 2 new backup pumps at a cost of $20,000 each. All paperwork completed for sewer project - bids for project should be out in 1 -2 weeks. Water project - spoke with Tom Hopkins concerning a parcel of land owned by Benzonia, a title search has been done - allows for a concrete tank to be placed, which would be non visible. Unfortunately, we would have to run 1800 feet of 12 inch water main, which negates savings from tower proposal. The plan looks positive - reviewed informally with Benzonia Council and they would endorse the proposal. If Benzonia needed to hookup with tank in the future, no difficulty is foreseen. Pine Knot water bill is in arrears - reduced 1 quarter due to faulty meter, by 50%. The reading with new meter has been consistent - bill must be paid - no recourse.
Law/Finance report already covered.
Building/Grounds - Chairman Kilgus: New signs placed in town - look good. The sign coming south into town needs to be re-angled , Kilgus will look into this. New sign is needed on the front of the building - Village of Beulah Offices, possible inclusion of established date place on the sign. Kilgus will also look into re-dong the Cold Creek sign. Thanks to Jane Gary for a good job on the planters. Builder will open wall (4 feet wide) between the offices - waiting to see if we need a permit, planning possibly for next Friday. The re-arrangement of the offices will occur later. Bids being obtained for re-roofing the bathhouse and fish shanty in the Trailer Park. Fish shanty needs door replaced, paint, and a new screen.
Equipment - Chairman Pallin: Radiator and thermostat has been replaced in the tractor - has been working fine - new tires will be needed. Purchased a chip & lawn vacuum - working well. Remote hose also purchased for vacuum - it has not come in yet.
Streets/Sidewalks - Chairman Baltazar: Potholes are being repaired in the Village. Co-ordination with the Library for lining the parking lot - Ann Damm has plans from architect - Baltazar to obtain plans. Replacement flags for Main St. have been donated by Dave Becloud - flags should be in early next week.
A letter of thank you should be sent to Dave.
Superintendent Moore: Monitoring of wells and taking samples will take place next Wednesday - all day job. Water meter readings will take place in approximately 2 weeks. Thanks to Gary Pallin for helping Dave on clean up day.
New Business:
2007 Tax Rate Request - percentage is up which equates to Beulah receiving approximately a $20,000 dollar increase. Determined to keep the mileage rate the same, with out a town hearing all that can be assessed is 8.65. Motion by Elliott, support by Baltazar to accept the 2007 Tax Rate Request - Roll Call: AYES: Elliott, Pallin, Rank, Kilgus, Baltazar, Belanger - NAYES - NONE - MOTION CARRIED
Personnel issue was raised - it was deemed inappropriate for public discussion
Public Input:
Pat Elliott - Beulah - Has put major work and renovations into the Village. Condition of the Village prior to Memorial Day, appalling. Mowing, beach cleaning, and buoys have not been taken care of as in the past - disappointed in lack of preparation for the summer season. Other concern is Newbold building - Kinzel and Elliott will check into the situation.
Fred Milliron - Question why 3 areas are open in the trailer park, money beneficial for the Village.
Charles Kinzel - Beulah - Stated he is opposed to religious organizations during the 4 th celebration. Questioned if there was advertising done for spaces in the Trailer Park.
Meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Laura Spencer, Clerk
